Goals 2011-12 Heights-Hillcrest-Lyndhurst AAUW Branch
  • We recognize that AAUW is a secular organization dedicated to equity in education and the workplace.  We will support the mission of AAUW by implementing the following goals:

     

    GOAL #1:  Recruit, nurture, and retain members

    ACTIONS:

    • Create a communications team to develop and implement ways to form bonds with members (e.g. send postcard meeting reminders, make phone calls, etc.)
    • Involve members in branch activities

     

    GOAL #2:  Develop media strategies and use social media (such as blog, Facebook, Twitter) to further AAUW's mission

    ACTIONS:

    • Educate readers, focusing on the Cleveland area when possible
    • Activate local student communities
    • Strengthen branch discussion and member participation in branch decisions

     

    GOAL #3:  Introduce middle and high school girls to non-traditional fields, especially STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields

    ACTIONS:

    • Plan events for middle and high school girls to introduce them to non-traditional careers for women, emphasizing careers in the STEM fields
    • Develop ways for girls in the upper-elementary grades to take part in some of these activities
    • Invite women employed in non-traditional occupations to participate and interact with the girls in these events

     

    GOAL #4:  Recruit college/university students and staff by developing and maintaining connections with Cleveland area colleges and universities

    ACTIONS:

    • Attend campus events, meet with staff, and request a meeting with students to tell them how AAUW can provide personal and institutional benefits
    • Invite students and staff to a branch program designed for them - perhaps to hear a NCCWSL student speak about their experience
    • Recruit one corporate partner during AAUW's 130th Membership Campaign
    • Offer a branch dues discount to student affiliates during the 130th Membership Campaign

     

    GOAL #5:  Support a strong system of public education

    ACTIONS:

    • Continue the New Little Book and Ohio's Making History Projects

     

    GOAL #6:  Continue to support AAUW Funds

    • Fellowships, Research & Projects Funds (formerly part of EF)
    • Legal Advocacy Fund (LAF)
    • Public Policy Fund
    • Leadership Program Fund
    • Eleanor Roosevelt Fund
